Asthma Triggers: Pesticide Sprays

Triggers: Chemicals or products with strong odors.

Where found: Often stored in basements and under kitchen sinks.  Pesticide sprays are used in areas with pests (i.e., areas with food and water such as kitchens, bathrooms, basements, and in houseplants).

What Can You Do?

  • Control pests by using baits or traps.
  • Limit the spray to infested area.
  • Carefully follow instructions on the label.
  • Make sure there is plenty of fresh air when you spray, and keep the person with asthma out of the room.
  • Properly store pesticide sprays according to directions on product.
